SAPUTARA

week end gateway -nasik and saputara. My friend Rodo and myself were tired of routine work done by us and just wanted to go the weekend. Nasik was a great spot. Good roads was easy to reach the destination in about 2 hours and then reaching a sleepy town called saputara about 70 kms was easier still.Saputara is about 2kms ,radius (small)basically a resting halt for those travelling to Gujarat specailly Surat, Navsari since it falls on the highway connecting Nasik to these places. By noon we checked into hotel Patang ,centrally located and overlooking the lake and still away from the hustle and bustle of the highway.

after a nice seista, we explored the small town , by seeing the step garden, forest nursery, log hut, honey centre, chacha's antique shop, rose garden, small aquarium, ganesh temple, jain temple and tableland and the boating club. OHH we had seen the whole town by the end of the day.

these photos at tableland and the view of valley. rodo was trying not to be blown off.....

quiet ganapati temple. black idol/no commercialization like selling flowers and coconuts. cable car ride is one more attraction and this ride takes you to sunset point which has a nice garden and lots of eateries like corn -boiled and roasted....etc....

Next day ,we deceided to explore a forest area called VANSDA NATIONAL PARK. It is located in the dangs area of gujarat-which is 70kms from saputara,in Waghai district. It is Bamboo forest and comes alive during monsoon. Also known as Cherapunji of the State.Mr Joshi the wild life officer was contacted and permission granted to see the forest. The forest was full of racket tailed drongo, gold fronted leafbirds, paradise flycatchers, red throated flycatchers...It was too hot by now ,hungry and tired we left after eating some alloo parathas.

fruit bat colony was making a riot of noise though it was day time......
resting place inside the forest.a man picking BOR from the tree.

roosting colony of egrets.the tree looked as though white cotton balls were stuck on this leafless tree.

On our return journey from saputara ,we saw lots of young boys selling strawberries and grapes freshed picked from nearby fields. Here again i noticed there were no fancy packing like Mahableshwar. Very simple-just sell and you can pack it in whatever containter you have. The Rustic way of removing sugarcane juice was just too much for my resistance and we stopped to have some of the best ever drank. SO PURE AND SO SWEET (nothing like what we drink in cities.

The village lifestyle, simple and idle was the highlight of this sleepy town of SAPUTARA. Highly recommended if you just are tired of noises of horns ,and noisy people....just run AWAY HERE......
